How do I get my laptop to recognize my DiskGO! Portable Harddrive?

I just purchased the DiskGO! by EDGE 3.5″ USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive. The problem is that my computer (Compaq Presario 2200 Laptop, running Windows XP) won’t recognize that there is a device attached to it. I tried restarting both the computer and the DiskGO! but it still doesn’t recognize it. It doesn’t even appear in the system tray. Any help would be much appreciated!!!

If you are using Windows 98, you must install a driver.

If you are using Windows XP, you should try connecting the portable harddrive to another computer. If it still does not work, then the cable or the harddrive itself may be at fault.
