CD Duplicator Tower Build Help?
Ok I’m going to attempt to build a stand alone cd duplicator pc from the ground up. Basically I need some recommendations on alot of parts and whatnot. I am going to use an Xcase 5 bay sata ide tower. Now… what I need to know is…
What mother board would you recommend to use, and should I use a controller board then run to the motherboard?
2 or 4 gb’s of ram?
XP SP2 on an 80gb WD sata drive work alright?
As far as the motherboard, what’s a good dualcore AMD processor to run on it?
the case comes with a 250w PSU, thinking I should maybe run a 400?
for the drives I’m wanting to run 5 CD drives all for writing. for optimal recording quality, 10x seems like a good speed.
Nero the best bet for software?
Anything else I’m missing, or am I going about it all wrong?
I’m wanting to build from the ground up for the experience and I want it to be a standalone system. I think it would be an awesome project and I’m gonna donate it to a church recording studio.
-Updated-
I agree it would be a cool project. I’d say go with 4gb of RAM and a triple-core processor at minimum, the Athlon II X3 450 is ony $79. In fact for multiple burning sessions, you might have a legitimate reason to get a quad or hexacore. The stock 250W psu definitely won’t be enough, upgrade that to 400W at least.
The big issue will probably be the psu, since I don’t know of any below 500W that would provide enough connectors for 5 optical drives in addition to the hard drive(s).
I’d go with Nero for recording… keep in mind that bulk/OEM burner drives don’t come with software, so make one of them a retail model.
I’ve never tried building a 5-bay duplicating tower before, so I’m hoping some people who have experience with such systems will post something here.

Why not buy a dedicated CD duplicator? Seems simpler than building a tower…
