How To Apply For A Provisional Driving Licence
If you have decided that you would like to learn to drive then the first thing you must do is apply for your provisional driving licence. Once you are over the age of 17 it is legal to learn to drive. Applying couldn’t be a simpler process. You can either go onto the website of the DVLA to get an application form or you can get one from your local post office.
You should send the completed application form to the DVLA along with a colour passport photo and original proof of identification such as a birth cert or passport. There is a fee for a provisional driving licence and this should be included too. Providing there are no problems, the DVLA aim to have your licence back to you within two or three weeks. You will receive two documents which are a photo card and an A4 paper document. Keeping both parts safe is crucial as they both make up your licence. When you take your driving test you will have to present both parts of your licence to the tester. Failure to bring both parts with you will result in your test being cancelled.
You can start to take your driving lessons as soon as you have received your provisional driving licence. There are restrictions in place regarding the size and type of car that you can drive. You are required to have a full licence holder at all times in the car with you when you drive and they must be over 21 and have held their licence for more than three years
It is essential that any car being driven by a provisional licence holder is insured and displaying the learner signs in the proper place. It may be a good idea to pay for a qualified driving instructor as this can take away the hassle of insuring the family car etc. However you can get out there and begin learning to drive as soon as you have your provisional licence.
It is irrelevant what type of driving license you currently have, if you are searching for a driving related job your future employer is within their rights to check what type of license you have . Driving licence verification is something which you should take very seriously indeed. Make sure you always hold the appropriate driving license before applying for a particular driving job.
