any other comments for ubuntu please
can i just run CD directly from my xp PC just to have an idea just before installing it . Dual boot is a good idea by the way
It’s free because Linux is public domain.. The man who invented it released it that way. Almost all distros are free. (You can buy paid support for many of them, but the program itself is free.)
You can’t run all Windows programs on it. Many people buy Windows computers and don’t change anything. (How many people change the operating system on a cellphone? It can be done.) Most people have no idea what Linux is or why they should be using it.
There are Linux drivers for most common hardware. If there’s no driver for some hardware you have, you have a problem. (One reason more people don’t use Linux.)
Run the CD. Try it. (You aren’t changing anything in the computer yet.) If it runs, and you like it, install it. Instead of Windows or in addition to Windows (dual boot) – your choice. If not, restart the computer, take out the CD and you wasted some time.
