Hello I have recently become the owner of a 21 inch I-mac (emc no-2389) and am attempting to dual boot windows xp service pack 2 home edition onto it, through boot camp.
I have successfully partitioned the HDD but whenever I load the windows install disk it loads up as normal, shows a brief message at the top saying “checking system hardware config” then the screen goes blank.
I’ve read a few similar occurrences like this on the apple website but non of their solutions tailored to my problem exactly and even though i tried them all Im getting the same problem.
So my question is can anyone help me out with my problem? I really need windows for 3DS max and my uni work. cheers
You must use the Boot Camp Assistant that reside in Utilities folder. Launch the Boot Camp Assistant and follow the instructions. If you partition your hard disk using Disk Utility, you need to restore the partition first and then launch Boot Camp Assistant. The boot camp assistant will do the partitioning and ask you to insert the windows installation dvd inside Mac OS itself. Do not attempt to boot on the Windows DVD via Boot Manager. If still you are having problems, then probably you have a bad RAM, but this is very rare. Following the correct steps should solve your problem.
Don’t forget to insert the original mac os install dvd when you are in windows after it has installed. You have the drivers for windows on the Original Mac Install DVD.
