problems changing from ide to sata drive?
i have an e machine that supports sata and ide drives. i have changed from an ide to sata, have plugged data cable into motherboard and power cable in, but on start up,it freezes on logo and cannot open bios or do anything! the drive is running ok. is there anything i need to change in bios before i try installing? shop i brought it from said it was tested and was working o.k. any help would be great. thanks forgot to mention have changed boot to run cd first as to instal windows.
it freezes up at bios logo. comp runs fine with ide drive in.don’t know how to re-seat ram and vga card. but this is the second drive i have had from this shop,i brought and took the first one back as it was faulty, they said all their drives were tested thoroughly, but i’m starting to wonder as the Original ide drive did exactly the same thing.
have tried everything and still nothing,so given up. thanks for all the replies though.
Most new computers come with SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) hard drives, which are faster and more reliable than the older IDE style drives. Some motherboards have connectors for both SATA and IDE, but chances are your computer will support only one or the other.
