Can I connect IDE Hard drive to IDE header port on Intel Motherboard?

My computer has intel mother board D945GCL. Can I connect an IDE hard drive (Maxtor) to IDE Header port.

YES of course but better use an 80 wire cable for faster performance. A 40 wire cable defaults to a lower UDMA transfer mode. Since there is only one IDE slot on any 945G motherboard, the same cable would support another IDE drive (optical or HDD).
