hey
ive had this hard drive for some time and its failing to work
spins and the pc knows its there but cant see it
now ive heard that if this happens you cant auto detect the HDD
so i have to put in the Heads and stuff manualy
now i know 100% how to do this i just need a hand
i dont know the cylinders or anything so heres whats on the sticker maybe you can tell me the things i need?

but why dose it look like it has 39 odd million sectors?
CHS stands for Cylinders, Heads, Sectors.
So I would assume it’s 16383 cylinders, 16 Heads, 63 sectors per track.
edit: That probably is the total number of sectors it has.
If say there was 512B per sector, 39,876,480 * 512 = 20416757760
20416757760 / 1000 / 1000 / 1000 = 20.42 which is very close to 20.3GB. Hard drive manufactures use 1000 not 1024 to work out capacity as it makes it look larger than it is.
My maths isn’t great, but I know the first step of working out the LBA is to multiply the cylinders by the heads by the tracks.
16383 * 16 * 63 = 16,514,064
