Why Is Black The Most Popular Colour for Gadgets?

This does sound like a strange question to ask, but why are we so in love with black coloured gadgets?. The majority of people will know by now that we as a nation are a bunch of gadget fanatics. Whether your favourite gadget is an iPod, a mobile phone or a netbook. We all have a handful of gadgets that we never leave the house without.

However, when it’s time to get yourself a new gadget, why do we always pick the same colour, black.

The question occured to me while I was reading an article about the upcoming black version of the Nintendo Wii. Nintendo said that with the release of their black edition console, they expect to see a sales boost. However, why would they automatically think that they will get a sales boost just because they release the console in a new colour. It’s not like their competitors are blowing them out of the water simply because they have black versions of their console. In fact, more Nintendo Wii’s have been sold that their competitor consoles, and the Wii is white.

The query about why black is a popular gadget colour isn’t just restricted to the gaming industry. The mobile phone market is just one example. When the iPhone was released, the black version easily out sold the white version. Pretty much every phone on the market is either available in black or only comes in black, just look at the shelves.

Another market where this question can be asked is in the television market. A few years back, the main colours for TV were black and silver, hell you could even buy blue or pink if you wanted. However, now it’s an almost impossible task to find a TV that isn’t black.

Nowadays, most gadgets that are released are available in black, from ipod alarm clocks to MP3 alarm clocks. It’s hard to see what the facination of black gadgets is. Although the black colour hides dirt, it does show dust more. Plus, if you were to scratch a black gadget, you can see the damage much more than say a silver gadget.

For those of you reading this who don’t like black gadgets, you’re in luck as, for the time being, you can still get some gadgets that don’t come in just black. Although this might change soon, for the time being you can still get yourself a candy grabby without it being only available in black. As for the question of black gadgets, I have no idea, maybe someone else has a better idea?

Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Metallica

Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Metallica

$11.72

It’s a funny thing with Rockabye Baby’s Lullaby Renditions of Metallica–the disc is both all about the music and it’s not. Consider it: on the one hand, here is a righteous, fully recognizable assortment of vintage Metallica tunes, including “Master of Puppets,” “Enter Sandman,” and “Nothing Else Matters.” On the other, what’s to stop a suburban massage parlor from passing it off as another gener…

This is a real sleeper of an album, literally. Smooth-jazz musicians–including Peter White, Dave Koz, Norman Brown, David Benoit, and others–play music here to put babies to sleep. Mars Attacks!

Mars Attacks!

$3.49

It’s enlightening to view Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks! as his twisted satire of the blockbuster film Independence Day, which was released earlier the same year, although the movies were in production simultaneously. Burton’s eye-popping, schlock tribute to 1950s UFO movies actually plays better on video than it did in theaters. The idea of invading aliens ray gunning the big-name movie stars in the …
