How many movies can I store on a 2tb External Hard Drive?

I am thinking about putting all of my movies on an external hard drive and then getting this media player that can connect to the hard drive. This way I can watch any of my movies on any TV if i bring the Hard Drive and the media player. I am wondering how many movies I can put on the hard drive. It says that the hard drive can hold 770 hours of DVD quality video or 240 hours of HD video. If I put my movies on the hard drive, they will be DVD quality, not HD quality right? and will it really matter since the media player has HDMI and is capable of transmitting in 1080p?
