What is the difference between and External Hard Drive & Portable External HDD’s?
Apart from the obvious, the portable being much smaller and well portable.
The pricing seems to be the same, I can get a 500gb for around £50.
But is the large External Hard drive more reliable? Or is the Portable HDD use flash memory rather than an actual spinning disk?
Any details will be appreciated
The basic differences are:
Desktop external: Larger case, external power supply.
Portable external: Smaller case, dual USB cable to supply power – no external power supply.
Unless it is marked as containing flash storage, it will be a disk based hard drive.
The portable drives should be more robust, as they will be carried about more and knocked and jolted more than the desktop versions.
