why isn’t SAS SCSI big in the highend home market?
Why aren’t the 15,000 rpm hdd big in the xtreme home user/gamer market? As far as i know sas scsi is backward compatible with sata?
Is there any disadvantage with this 15k drives that use sas for everyday gaming/windows usage ?
You have it slightly backwards. SATA can ride SAS, but SAS can’t ride SATA. SATA is way cheaper and easier to implement. Most people have it already on their motherboards. Technology changes constantly, but I haven’t seen a SATA backpane that supported SAS, so you’ll need both a SAS controller and drive. Also, you’ll need make sure you can handle the increased power and heat. It’s certainly doable, but Dell probably won’t be offering it in a $2,000 gaming PC any time soon.
