ProcessorXeon Quad Core E5335 80W

Xeon – Brand name of a line of processors. These processors usually have more on-board cache to enhance performance. These processors were also developed with multiprocessor capabilities in mind.

DDR2 SDRAM (Double Data Rate Synchronous DRAM) – Like DDR, DDR2 is a type of SDRAM in which data is sent on both the rising and falling edges of clock cycles in a data burst. DDR2 is the next evolutionary step in the DDR infrastructure whose improved design increases memory bandwidth. Since DDR2 runs more efficiently than standard DDR memory, it actually uses less power. DDR2 memory is not compatible with DDR memory, DDR2 modules having 240 contacts, compared with DDR modules’ 184.

The PC2-5300 is just a fancy way of telling you this memory runs at 667MHz.

FBD – Fully Bufferd Dimm… Means each memory module has a memory buffer built-in to increase performance.

CL4 – Which is called CAS Latency (or CL or “access time”) and tells us how many clock cycles the memory module will delay in returning a data requested by the CPU. A memory module with a CL 4 will delay four clock cycles to deliver a requested data, whereas a memory module with a CL 3 will delay three clock cycles to deliver it. While both modules may run at the same clock rate, the second one will be faster, as it will deliver data sooner than the first one. This issue is known as “latency”.

3.5 inch – Size of a standard internal hard drive. Will fit in a 3.5″ bay.

15K – RPM’s (Revolutions per minute) The faster the RPM’s, the faster the drive can find and transfer the data stored on the drive.

HS – Hot Swap… Means this drive can be removed without powering down the server, or system…

SAS – Serial Attached SCSI – It is designed for the corporate and enterprise market as a replacement for parallel SCSI, allowing for much higher speed data transfers than previously available.

HDD – Hard Disk Drive.
