How do i replace the 1TB drives that come in a Seagate BlackArmor 420 NAS with 2TB drives?
I have already filled slots 3 & 4 with 2TB drives and I have the 2TB drives for slots 1 & 2 but cannot find anywhere in the manual how to stop the good 1TB drives so I can switch them. I understand how to and can do the actual hardware swap, I just need to know how to safely stop the drives so I can make the swap. I will be setting up a RAID 5 array when the swap is complete and understand how to do that as well. Thanks for your help.
While I COULD read the instructions, I’ll bet that pressing the front power switch once will initiate a safe shutdown sequence. At least that’s the way my other D-Link and LaCie NAS devices work.
Using a RAID 5 array for backing up PCs is fine. If you plan to keep important files on that NAS, consider what happens if the electronics in that NAS device fail. Unless you can get an identical model, reading files off your RAID disks may be impossible.
