The Purpose Of Cable Extension USB
When you have to connect the computer with a USB device such as a scanner or best color laser printers, you will need a cable extension USB for the installation. The USB specifications for this kind of connection mention the possibility to have cables that include an active repeater chip, also known as passive extension cables. 16 feet is the maximum optimal distance for the USB extension, anything beyond this, may lead to damage of the USB equipment and data loss. Several cable extension USB items can be inter-connected for a longer-distance solution, but even so, the cords cannot be bound together for more than 80 feet.
Basically, the connection is the basis for the entire cable extension. USB ports on desktops and notebooks are perfectly compatible with devices. Usually double shielded, extension cables USB applications make transfer rates possible at up to 480 Mb per second. Most cables work with all computers, both Mac and PC and the compliance applies to any high-speed USB, whether it is 2.0, 1.1 or 1.0. The reliability of USB cables results from the existence of incorporated or built-in electronics that make good performance possible even at long or peripheral distances.
There are usually two types of cable extension USB connectors, a distinct one for each part of the cable, such as A male or A female. The A female gets into the computer port while the A male makes the link with the next cable, in case the scanner or the printer requires further extension. The USB connection has become all practical with the massive replacement of the former serial cable. And the usage has almost no limitations at all if we think that the USB technology stays at the basis of every modern electronic device. Modern computer and notebook versions no longer incorporate serial ports, and neither mouses nor keyboards have serial connectors.
The need for a cable extension USB cord is not exactly common occurrence. Most PC owners work well to the regular cable length and do not have to look for extensions. Or they prefer to use a device which does not need wires or any other connecting attachments other than a plain Wi-Fi connection such as wireless color laser printer. It seems that Apple users are those who rely on USB connectors more frequently as Macs have fewer USB ports incorporated. Cable extension USB cords will usually function for connecting office electronics, which makes them necessary for networks, multiple office usage and lots of situations when the distance between one appliance and another is larger than 16 feet.
