Swap Drive

How do I swap a hard drive from one notebook to another?
Old notebook: Dell Lattitude CPx, 60 gig hard drive, runs Windows XP Pro. Newer notebook: Compaq Evo n800c. It currently has a 20 gig hard drive and runs Windows 2000 pro. I got no cds with the Compaq. I tried swapping but the Compaq would lock up as if it did not recognize the hd.
It will not work. When windows was installed on the origional computer it was set to that computer. ie. the mobo, processor, and other hardware. To use the drive on the newer comp you are going to have to reinstall windows. There is no other way. It needs to be installed and work with the Bios on that comp.
