How can I use Toshiba MK 1032GAX hard drive with Lightwave on to my laptop?

I just bought this external hard drive from Lightwave which uses above Toshiba hard disk. When I tried to link it to my laptop thr’ USB, it’s not recognising. But it does in the desktop. Is there any problem or this hard drive can’t be used on laptop at all?
my laptop is Toshiba satellite 2005 model with windows XP home edition. is it something with the USB port? i tried in all 3 ports.

Maybe your laptop is too old and does not recognize the enclosure chipset. The drive seems to be fine since it is recognized by your desktop. If problem is indeed the laptop old USB ports u can buy a PCMCIA USB2 card for $10 or cheaper on ebay.
