Samsung ML 3050 – Able To Print How You Need For The Small Office

The Samsung ML 3050 printer and ML 3050 toner makes for a good unit in a surprisingly inexpensive laser printer that’s designed to be integrated into a workgroup. It combines that small price in a laser monochrome unit that’s also smallish in size and easy to move about an office, if need be.

Print speed for the ML 3050 comes in at around 28ppm output. It can get up to 30ppm print output if putting out Letter A-sized stock. Keep in mind that print speeds will vary with the complexity of the print job, as it relates to graphics or text within that job. Resolution, too, is also good. This comes in at 1200dpi, delivering clear and crisp copy.

The Samsung printer comes supplied with two different interface type ports; a USB and an older-style parallel printer capability. This is more of a legacy issue, but if the network is older and hasn’t been completely upgraded as yet, it will come in handy. No Base-TX 10/100 Ethernet or 802.11 wireless interfaces are offered. This shouldn’t be a huge issue in the kinds of small workgroups it’s envisioned that this printer will serve.

As far as operating systems are concerned, the Samsung ML 3050 is able to utilize various platforms. This includes most Windows operating systems in addition to Mac and Linux OSs. For Linux, compatibility with Red Hat and Fedora is offered. This wide array of interoperability will most likely be a pleasure to just about any information technology professional needing to integrate this printer into a network.

Onboard standard memory with the ML 3050 is 16MB. This can be increased up to a maximum of 272MB. Given the print jobs that most units in a network are faced with, it’s pretty much a certainty that the supplied memory, either standard or upgraded, will not be an issue. This is so even if the job has a lot of graphics or super-clear text requirements in its docs and files.

Internal paper storage is adequate at around a normal 300 sheets of paper within its paper tray. This can be bumped up to a total of 550 sheets with the utilization of the output trays. When taken in its entirety, with the amount of paper it can hold, the unit finds itself in a league different from those of other printers in the low price point it was positioned within by Samsung. It’s a durable laser printer, also, with a maximum monthly duty cycle of 100,000 pages. This adds to the attraction.

The ML 3050 cartridge comes supplied with the printer. This standard version is good for over 4,000 pages of print output before needing to be replaced with a fresh cartridge. An optional higher capacity toner cartridge is also available. It will push print output maximums to past 8,000 pages. Again, if most of print jobs are graphics-intensive, expect that the cartridge will need replacement sooner.

Utilizing the Samsung ML 3050 printer and ML 3050 printer toner as a pair is a pleasant enough experience. Both the printer and the cartridge deliver fine performance, and for not a lot of money spent on the initial purchase and integration into an existing network. It’s also a longer-lasting model than would be expected, given that low price.
