How do I connect a fixture with a spot for white / black wire when I also have a red wire in the ceiling?
We are trying to hook up overhead light fixture in a roughed in space wired with a white, black and red wire. What do we do with the red wire after connecting the white, black and ground?
cap the red wire off. It is hot also. It isthere to hook up a ceiling fan with a light fixture and is not needed if only a light is installed. Since it is hot, make sure it is capped off securely with right size wire nut.
